Part 2—Greece
You can add this extra trip to the Greece three-day trip to the Peloponnese Península. It will be exciting, with castles, Kings, mythology, Greek food, and History. What is real, and what is mystical? Come and see! It will be fun!! I was surprised at how low-priced it was.
Immerse yourself in the alluring beauty of the Mediterranean, a backdrop to the rich history that unfolds before you. This journey promises to be unforgettable as you explore castles, encounter statues of a legendary king, and retrace the steps of epic wars. Pylos, nestled on the Southeastern seaport of the Peloponnese Peninsula in the ancient district of Messenia, awaits your discovery.
Pylos-name of King and City
King Pylos, also known as Nestor, was a brilliant man who played a high role in the Trojan Wars. He was a war hero at the Bay of Navarino, where the Athenians won over the Spartans in the Peloponnesian War. He threw lavish parties and was said to be a charmer. He used his charms to gather information for the war.
City of Pylos
The city was known to be important to the Mycenaean Civilization during the Bronze Age.
Modern Day
The Palace of Nestor is believed to have been King Pylos’ seat when the culture and political hub was thriving.
Pylos is a mythical figure and an ancient city. People hold it as an essential part of history and Greek mythology. People and scholars are still fascinated by him.
Fun for Everyone
There is something to do for everyone. There is ancient history for culture enthusiasts. You can visit the ancient ruins, castles, lagoons and the islands. Nature lovers will love this place while taking photographs for their articles or family photos.
Here are the best attractions in Pylos:
The Palace of Nestor proves that the Mycenaean civilization existed. It is the best and most well-preserved, and within its walls are apartments, wine stores, sideboards, and workshops. The palace has two stories with beautiful murals showing the art of its time. See the throne room where this famous king sat. You can see the beautiful view of The Bay of Navarino and the stunning Voidokilla lagoon.
The Trion Navarchon Square draws visitors and locals. It holds the monument to the heroes Kodrigkton Derigny and Heyden, who won the Battle of Navarino.
Antonopoulos Museum is a must. It has archaeological artifacts dating back to the history of Pylos, including Roman and other cultures.
Here is a link to more about Pylos and attractions. There are places where other battles took place, castles, islands, and so many exciting things to see and do.
If you are a nature lover like me, you will love the Gialova lagoon. You can take bird-watching tours there. The Lagoon is part of The Natura 2000 Network. It has flora and fauna, as well as migratory birds. It has the endangered African Chameleon bird, found only in part of Europe.
Churches
Several churches throughout are part of the cultural heritage, but some are also part of the spiritual side of the town. If you are spiritual, you will have a place to worship when you stay for your visit.
Beaches
Gialova Beach
This beach has something for everyone. If you want to sunbathe, you can. But this is the place to do water sports. Get a canoe or get brave enough to windsurf. This is a great place to swim.
If you want to go and get a bite to eat, there are several restaurants to choose from. There is also a coffee shop where someone like me can sit, write, and drink some of the most incredible coffee. There are also some luxury suites here, and maybe I can get one since I am writing about this city. I can write a review on the hotel.
Voidokilia Beach
This is the most popular beach, although it is untouched by tourism. It has the most beautiful turquoise waters and a very relaxing atmosphere. It is an archaeological site, so it is untouched by tourism. This tells me about the locals; they like the peace.
Chrysi Ammos Beach
On this beach, you can go camping, and it is on the Bay of Navarino and Sfaktiria Island.
How to get around Pylos: There is a local bus service, or you can rent a car to explore the sites.
To get to Pylos: Airport: Kalamata Airport 50 kil Take a taxi or bus.
There are many restaurants in Pylos. Here are a couple:
The Taste Corner offers authentic Greek gyros, and Koukos Wine Bar offers curbside service. Here is a link for more. Booking.com
