Springtime Restlessness, What Should I Do and Where Should I Go?
There are a lot of places to travel to this time of year.
I call it spring fever! Every time this year when it starts getting warm and the flowers are budding, I get this enormous energy to want to go somewhere.
You have March through April and Memorial Day at the end of May for Holidays here in Georgia. I would love to go somewhere I have never been, so let’s investigate.
I have always wanted to go to Costa Rica, where many Americans have retired. Costa Rica has rainforests where we can see lots of wildlife, which is what I love. It has a volcano, which means it is rich in coffee beans. That is my number one seller, and I already knew about their coffee.
For me, since I am disabled, if I decide on a land package I would want a place in the rainforest. A place to see the animals so I could take pictures and write. I could drink the he best coffee ever, eat the best food and relax. If I am lucky maybe I can take a jeep ride down to a hot springs. I did not see anything about it but I bet there is a place I can rent one. I did in Mexico. That would be perfect.
What is there to do in Costa Rica?
You can raft down the Pacuare River. I might do that with a tour guide. Seeing the rainforest that way would be exciting since I cannot hike. But here are other opportunities in other parts of Costa Rica for your enjoyment. It depends on how much excitement you want and what part of the country you are in.
Pacuare River (Puerto Viejo): The Pacuare River is one of the most famous in Costa Rica. Rafting here offers a perfect blend of exciting rapids and breathtaking scenery. You’ll encounter wildlife and lush forests as you navigate the river1.
Balsa River (La Fortuna): Close to the Arenal Volcano, the Balsa River provides a mix of exhilarating white-water action and serene floats through dense Costa Rican forests. It’s an ideal excursion for families and adventure enthusiasts alike2.
Sarapiqui River (La Fortuna): Another gem near La Fortuna, the Sarapiqui River promises fun rapids and a memorable rafting experience. The lush surroundings and thrilling water make it a must-visit spot1.
Tenorio River (Guanacaste): The Tenorio River in Guanacaste offers an exciting rafting adventure. You’ll encounter calm stretches and adrenaline-packed rapids with intriguing names like “The Washing Machine” and "Boca Diablo"2.
Naranjo River (Manuel Antonio): Brace yourself for an intense rafting experience on the Naranjo River. It’s a thrilling ride with challenging rapids, making it perfect for adventure seekers1.
Chorro River and Coto Brus River (Dominical): Explore white-water rafting with Dominical Adventures on the Chorro River and Coto Brus River. These lesser-known spots offer exciting rapids and stunning natural beauty1.
Remember to choose a rafting trip that suits your preferences, whether you’re seeking family-friendly floats or adrenaline-packed rapids. Costa Rica’s rivers promise unforgettable adventures! 🚣♂️🌴
You can zipline.
Arenal Volcano: Glide across the canopy with stunning views of one of the most iconic volcanoes1.
Monteverde Cloud Forest: Soar through the misty treetops and witness the rich biodiversity of this unique ecosystem2.
Diamante Superman Canopy Zip Line: Experience the thrill of flying above the treetops, mountains, and the beautiful coastline of Guanacaste1.
Jaco Canopy Zipline Tour: For those seeking a bit more speed and adventure, the Jaco tour offers a thrilling ride through the forest1.
Surfers
Tamarindo: A laid-back beach town with consistent waves suitable for beginners and intermediates1.
Santa Teresa: Known for its long sandy beaches and consistent surf, attracting surfers from around the world2.
Jaco: Offers a variety of breaks along its long beach, with waves for all skill levels and a vibrant nightlife2.
Dominical: Famed for its powerful waves and beautiful scenery, it’s a spot for more experienced surfers3.
Nosara: A surfers’ paradise with a relaxed vibe and excellent waves for both longboarding and shortboarding2.
Puerto Viejo: Home to the famous Salsa Brava, it’s a hotspot for advanced surfers looking for a challenge on the Caribbean coast2.
Each location provides a unique surfing experience against Costa Rica’s stunning natural beauty. 🏄♂️🌴🌊
Horseback riding
You can also go horseback riding. I would probably enjoy doing this. It has been a long time, so maybe I won’t get thrown off. I used to ride horseback with my friends in my teens, and the last time I went to was in my 30s. It would really be a great way to see the country since I cannot hike.
Brisas del Nara: Enjoy a ride through the countryside with views of waterfalls and a chance to spot local wildlife1.
The Monkey Farm: Offers a scenic trail ride through the jungle and beach, with the possibility of seeing howler monkeys1.
Hacienda Mil Bellezas: A farm that provides a more intimate horseback riding experience with farm-to-table meals included.
Alberto’s Horses: Known for its beautiful riding paths, including river crossings and views of the landscape1.
Diamante Eco Adventure Park: Not only offers horseback riding but also other thrilling activities like ziplining1.
Pacific Horses: Provides a great horseback riding experience along scenic beach areas.
Guti Tours: Combines beach rides with incredible tour guides for an unforgettable experience.
Arenal Wilberth Stables: Offers rides with views of the Arenal Volcano and surrounding landscapes1.
Arenal Mundo Aventura: Allows you to explore the area around the Arenal Volcano on horseback1.
Smiling Horses: Takes you on a ride through the rainforest and steep terrain for a more adventurous outing1.
Finca Caballo Loco: Known for its beautiful, well-cared-for horses and various tours available1.
Whether looking for a peaceful ride through the forest, a beachside gallop, or an adventure near the Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica’s horseback riding tours offer something for everyone. 🐎🌿
There are many All-Inclusive Resorts. You can choose from the high-end with spas to the low-end with fewer amenities, just staying in the jungle. I would want the All-Inclusive. They also have some that you can add to the meal packages.
They have: costaricavacations.com
Golf and Spa Packages
Everything Wilderness Packages
Family Oriented Packages
Affordable boutique hotels
You can also stay in the National Parks where you can see Wildlife.
If I go in April, the last two weeks are attractive. The weather is excellent. April is a transitional month between the seasons. It could start the rainy season. It has excellent hotel rates, fewer crowds, and dry weather. If it rains, there will just be light showers.
The daylight is 12 hours and 20 minutes, so you will have plenty of time to enjoy yourself—5:30 a.m.-5:50 pm.
About Costa Rica
The Language of Food: In Costa Rica, a ‘soda’ isn’t just a fizzy drink; it’s a small restaurant where you can enjoy a hearty plate of rice, chicken, salad, and beans for a bargain1.
Snail Mail History: When Costa Rica gained independence in 1821, it took a whole month for the news to reach everyone because a mail courier delivered it on a mule1.
These are just a few snippets of the fun and quirky side of Costa Rica. It’s a place where the sun shines bright, the coffee is strong, and the adventures are endless. Pura Vida! 🌴☀️
Cruise
You could also take a cruise to Costa Rica. Imagine getting on a massive ship with the ocean breeze, with only air blowing and water rippling around. We are leaving on the S.S. Costa Rica, a fun boat calling our name so I can write in my travel diary.
Day 1: As we leave the harbor, we grab a cocktail and start moving with the music of the Caribbean sounds. The captain shouts on the intercom,” Welcome aboard; our stop will be the Rich Coast!”
Day 2: You wake up, look out the window, and see the humpback whales. It is still April, and they are still here amongst us. What a sight to see. The naturalist prepares you for the day with all the wildlife you might see. You can still see the turtles hatching and going into the sea. What a joy it will be to see sloths, toucans, and quetzals. I never get to see these animals at home, especially out in the wild.
Day 3: Today, I will experience the culinary foods of Costa Rica. I get to eat Gallo pinto for breakfast, Casado for lunch, and a gourmet twist on the classic Arroz con Pollo for dinner. This will be a delight. I have never tried these dishes, so this is a treat.
Day 4: Port of Call-Puerto Limon is our next stop, and I go shopping and see the colorful art and murals painted on the walls. We travel to the waterfalls for a dip. If it is a long walk, it will be impossible for me. But that is okay; I can return to the ship for a nap or write about what I have seen.
Day 5: The Heart of the Jungle is an excursion to the rainforest, which I cannot go to if it is a long walk. I can attend the lecture on Costa Rica’s biodiversity, though.
Day 6: Time for Spa Pampering and Relaxation after days of adventure and windblown from the ship. You get volcanic mud wraps and coconut oil massages. I will need it with my fair complexion.
Day 7: Time for a Farewell Fiesta under the stars. We can dance the night away. Let’s try some wine tonight if you want to loosen up for some dancing.
So, this Cruise sounds excellent, or you can choose from several Caribbean cruises that visit several ports. There are last-minute deals with great prices online.
It is so hard to choose.
Costa Rica is known as the Switzerland of the Caribbean. They had 2 million visitors in 2023.
